Omisore assures on youth empowerment

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the August 9 Osun governorship poll, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has promised to put youth empowerment on the front burner, if elected governor of the state.

He said the era of creating non-profitable jobs for the teeming youthful populace in the state will soon end, calling on well meaning Nigerians to
do more for the less privileged to eradicate poverty and prevent the country from unwarranted crisis occasioned by joblessness and poverty.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of an empowerment scheme he financed, held at the PDP state secretariat in Osogbo, the Director General of Omisore Youth Support Programme, Rotimi Adeyenuwo, who stood in for the former deputy governor at the event, said the scheme has been supported with huge amount, adding that the beneficiaries are mainly youths.

He said beneficiaries have been sent to learn different vocations and upon completion will be given take off grant to set up their different trades.

Explaining how the beneficiaries emerged, Adeyenuwo said several youths that cut across different political parties in the state, applied online and were selected after screening.

According to him: “Omisore is giving youths in the state fresh start; there have been several attempts in the past to create jobs for our youths but I am assuring them that the one the PDP governorship candidate is doing now is to lift as many youths as possible out of poverty.

He said “This is not about a political party. It is for all youth that are indigenes of this state. No membership card of any party is required before anyone can benefit from this empowerment scheme and we are of the opinion that the beneficiaries will soon begin to create jobs and employ more unemployed people.”

Omisore said the youth, the future of any country, must be protected and empowered, adding that since no government can completely eradicate poverty, all well meaning Nigerians must do more to assist government in youth empowerment.
