OAU VC: Unions get court injunction to stop process

Though the Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, had concluded plans to announce a new Vice-Chancellor today (Saturday), workers unions in the school on Friday said they had secured a Federal High Court injunction that would stop the planned announcement.

Students Escape Injury as Fire Gut OAU Hostel

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife were fortunate to escape when fire gutted one of the rooms in Moremi Hostel of the university.

It was learnt that the fire occurred at Room ‎A304 of the hostel  mid-day Thursday, when the school was on break.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire outbreak was likely caused by electrical appliances.

Eight Score Above 300 in OAU Post UTME

Eight out of over 14,000 students who sat for the post-UTME examination of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, scored 300 marks and above.

A statement issued by the institution's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Biodun Olarewaju said 14,648 sat for the examination.

NANS Vows To Disrupt OAU Post-UTME Test

National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS South-west zone (Zone D) has vowed to disrupt this weekend’s Post-UTME screening exercise at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-ife, Osun State.
NANS disclosed that the proposed action is in response to the institution’s refusal to reduce the current school fees and for also shutting down academic activities which has kept all her members from the university at home.

No Going Back On School Charges---OAU VC

Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Tuesday said, the increase in the school charges was inevitable if the institution was to attain the international standard.

Vice Chancellor of OAU, Prof Bamitale Omole, who addressed journalists in Ile-Ife town, said that the current economic reality could no longer accommodate students paying as little as N7,000 per session, hence the regime of a minimum of over N60,000 per fresh student.

Ooni of Ife placates OAU students into releasing presidency vehicles, hostages

After holding a convoy of presidency vehicles hostage for over two hours, students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, released them following the intervention of the Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuade.
The students held the 6-vehicle convoy and its occupants’ hostage after a police officer on the convoy shot at the protesting students.

OAU Boils Over 300% Increment in Freshers Charges

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has increased the charges for fresh students by Three Hundred and Twenty Two per cent.

The increment in the charges has, however, caused tensed environment  in the institution, as students express fear of  internal strike.

The management recently released a document showed that charges of freshers admitted into Humanities/Social Sciences have been increased

Osun Seals Off Oduduwa University Over Unpaid Tax

Osun State Internal Revenue Service on Monday sealed off Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu,  over non-remittance of N173 million income tax.

A statement by senior special assistant to the governor on  revenue, Mr Femi Balogun,  who led the  team to the university at Osogbo , said  the tax liabilities covered the period between 2006 and 2011.

OAU inaugurates N170m office complex

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has inaugurated its N170m office complex and an e-learning Centre for Distance Learning at Moro, Ife North Local Government campus of the institution.

This was contained in the university’s News Bulletin made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ile-Ife.

Cultism returns to OAU?

Strong indications emerged last week that cultists might have returned to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Though, the students cannot tell how the prohibited group might have entered the university, they vowed to combat it by all means.

It was learnt that the generality of the students, on Thursday,March 20th, were shocked when they woke up to see  insignia of different cult groups pasted across the school.

Ife Youth Vanguard (IYV) in Osun State, has warned that any attempt by the management of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) to relocate the centre from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife to Abuja may lead to crisis, even as it vowed to resist the move.

Jubilation in OAU over Suspension of Strike

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Tuesday, were full of joy when they confirmed that the over five moths strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities has been suspended.

The students, who had been on campus since the school management ordered resumption were seen jumping around the campus congratulating one another.

IOP welcomes Ojutalayo as its 50,000th member

Eunice Wuraola Ojutalayo joined the newly-formed Institute Of Physics (IOP) Nigeria branch this year after a team from the branch visited her university.

Ojutalayo went to the IOP’s London office on 15 November and attended the Branches Forum, before going to the IOP Awards Dinner to be presented with a certificate from the Institute’s president, Frances Saunders.

Ife ultramodern library: Bringing knowledge to the people

“We don’t even have a working library in Ile-Ife right now apart from those inside the Obafemi Awolowo University and that is why we are ecstatic that he built a library and donated it to us.”  These were the words of an excited student of Ife descent when asked how he felt about the new ultramodern library donated by an Ife man and lover of education to the community recently.
